Author's Note

Hope Shining Brightly is the story of my family's dedicated determination to save two small children from the grips and heartaches of homelessness and despair by adopting them into our loving and supportive family. This story was written for other children and their prospective families who are caught in the same emotionally and abusive situation we were in -- written in hopes of sparing them from some of the frustration and agony that we experienced.

I began writing this book as a therapeutic tool to help myself, but as I completed it I realized that our story could help educate people about the issues involved with legal risk adoption. I changed the names of the characters involved so I could protect them from the misunderstandings that could erupt from this controversial issue. I also assumed a pen name to protect my family from further disruptions in their lives.

I've always felt that the pen is mightier than the sword and am hoping that our story can help bring about the needed changes within the social service programs involved in legal risk adoptions. We can make a difference in our society if we strive to understand the problems and get involved in the solutions. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
